all about our coaches and how we got started

KARI DAVIS has been coaching children and adults for over 35 years. She started coaching in high school durning the summers at her local swim team and continued coaching throughout college where she was an All-American swimmer all four years at Occidental College.  After graduating and getting a real job she was asked to start a new team in Del Mar, CA where she was currently living.  She started Ranch San Dieguito Swim Team with eight novice swimmers in 1987 and left the Nationally Ranked team in 2005 with 300+ swimmers.  Many of her swimmers went to Nationals and Olympic Trials but Kari loved working with the beginning Novice swimmers most.

Kari started doing triathlons right after college as a way to have fun and stay in shape.  Kari has competed in all distances, from Olympics to Ironman distances, and has qualified for USAT Age-Group Nationals and Worlds in both the Olympic and Long Course Distances. She continues to train and race with her husband, Scott, around the United States and Europe.

SCOTT DAVIS started coaching with TRI-KIDS123 in 2002 and enjoys working with children of all ages and abilities.  He has coached several triathletes for their first sprint triathlon up to the Ironman distance. He is enthusiastic about triathlons and passionate about sharing his experience and knowledge with athletes of all ages.

He started doing triathlons while in college at UC Boulder, CO, where he later became a Pro Triathlete.  He competed all over the world before going back to school to get his MBA at USC. After graduating he worked with Morgan Stanley in New York and California as a bond trader and in private client services.

Scott has competed in triathlons of all distances and has qualified for the USA Age-Group Nationals and Worlds in both the Olympic and Long Course Triathlon distances.  Scott has been to the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, several times placing in the top 10 of his age-group in both 2007 and 2008. He continues to train and race with his wife, Kari, around the United States and Europe.

SCOTT AND KARI both grew up in Southern California.  Kari in Newport Beach, CA and Scott in Westlake Village, CA. They met in Del Mar, CA and moved to Park City in 2005 to get away from the traffic and congestion of San Diego and enjoy the healthy outdoor lifestyle in Park City.

In 2010, they took the opportunity to open a Computrainer Center back in Southern California.  Their business grew into a Triathlon/Cycling Racing Team (P5 Racing), running Triathlon and Cycling Camps throughout the United States and Europe and owning and running two beautiful triathlons and Open Water Swims in Orange County, CA (The OC Tri Series).  Scott and Kari coached hundreds of athletes to their first triathlon and motivated several to complete in their first Ironman distance event.  For eight years they were immersed in the triathlon world as  full time coaches and business owners and loved every minute of!

However, it soon became clear that they were spending more time training athletes then training themselves, so, in 2017 they sold their businesses and moved back to Park City once again to enjoy the healthy outdoor lifestyle of Park City!!

They have two amazing grown children, Kimberly and Ryan, who both got married in 2017, so they now they have four amazing grown children!.  All four kids live in Southern California.

HOW TRI-KIDS123 GOT STARTED:  In 1997, in Del Mar, CA, Tri-Kids123 was started when Kari observed that many of her National Age Group swimmers were great in the water but were missing some of the other skills kids have just to have fun. So, she started riding bikes, running on near by trails and playing soccer and basketball with them durning their off-season.  The kids had more fun, were injured less and still were fast in the water!   TRI-KIDS123 Camps and Triathlons were ran throughout Southern California with thousands of young athletes participating and having fun!

In 2008, when Kari and her husband, Scott, moved to Park City, they were asked to run a TRI-KIDS123 Camp and Triathlon durning the summer. Park City is an ideal place for kids to run and play with lots of safe trails for biking and running and a beautiful swim facility at Ecker Hills Aquatic Center.   Kari and Scott continue to run TRI-KIDS123 camps and triathlons throughout the summer being one of the most fun things they do each year!
